The main cast and main staff for Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan anime is announced in the GA Bunko 10th Anniversary Festa event, which also unveiled a visual. The anime is inspired by Riku Misora's light novel series.

The main cast includes:
Ryota Ohsaka as Ikki Kurogane
Shizuka Ishigami as Stella Vermillion
Nao Tōyama as Shizuku Kurogane
Shintarō Asanuma as Nagi Arisuin

Shin Oonuma (Baka to Tesuto to Shoukanjuu, Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya, Its Not My Fault That Im Not Popular) and and Jin Tamamura (Invaders of the Rokujyōma!?) are director and series director, who respectively work at the anime studios SILVER LINK (Baka to Tesuto to Shoukanjuu, Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya, Its Not My Fault That Im Not Popular) and Nexus (Santa Company, Wakaba Girl). Shogo Yasukawa (Shokugeki no Soma, Chou Jigen Game Neptune - Megami Tsuushin, Terra Formars) is responsible for the series scripts, with Sei Komatsubara as characters designer, Jin Aketagawa of Magic Capsule as sound director.

The story follows Magic Knights, modern magic-users who fight with weapons converted from their souls. Ikki Kurogane who was dubbed the Failure Knight by everyone around him encounters a half- naked girl, Stella Vermillion, who was changing in his room. The fateful encounter which change Ikki's life as he strives to reach the peak of Seven Star Sword Art Festival and becoming a real Mage Knight.

The light novel series, created by Riku Misora, began serialization in 2013. Megumu Soramichi launched the manga of the same name in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine in 2014.
